Play Therapy
Offered in English and ASL
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play IS serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” Mr. Rogers
Play is the natural language of children. In play therapy, children practice new skills they can take into the world and their relationships. Through play, children can learn new skills and process traumatic experiences in a way that feels safe for their nervous system. Some of the skills children learn in play are:
- Emotional regulation
- Positive coping skills
- Communication
- Pro-social skills
- How to manage anxiety
- Anger and Stress management skills
- Empathy
- Self-respect
Trauma is stored in the body; specifically in the brain’s emotional center, the amygdala and hippocampus. It can lead to unusually high levels of cortisol which can lead to more serious health problems. Through play, children (and adults) can access their experience and process it kinesthetically integrating their thoughts, beliefs, and feelings.
Assessments
offered in English and ASL
NMT The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics is an assessment tool developed by Dr. Bruce Perry. (https://www.neurosequential.com/nmt) This biologically respectful approach to treating children has had a global impact serving children and families in all walks of life. I am a level-one trained provider and can help you identify interventions to help support the development of your child’s brain. I will use zoom to interview parents, teachers, doctors, other caregivers and professionals who work with your child to help me create the most accurate assessment which in turn will help inform treatment plan goals and interventions for therapy, school, and home environments. If I can reach everyone involved, the process will take about a month; this will be dependent on the responsiveness of the individuals identified as those whom I will need to interview.
Payment: The initial deposit is $500. When the balance reaches $100, another $500 will need to be paid. At the end of the assessment process, if there is a positive balance left, this money will be returned to you.

You will meditate with the Bible using a 5 step-guided process to become personally immersed in scripture; we will be using the King James Translation. I will guide you through scripture as you explore God’s message for you. Even though we will be doing this as a group, the messages will be intensely personal and there will be opportunity for you to share if you are comfortable. The Lord is always there to walk with you through life’s challenges.
Supplies:
- You will need a journal to record the messages you receive. This can be a notebook, sketchbook, or a journal. I have linked a couple of ideas below.
- Something to write with. I have linked a couple of options below.
- Bible. I will provide the scripture on the screen for each meditation, however, you can bring your Bible as well.
Animal Academy
Animals are great teachers. Animal Academy offers opportunities to learn more about yourself as we connect through animals and their stories. Come dive to the ocean floor and learn from octopuses, jellyfish, and whales. Next, go on a safari to learn from zebras and elephants. Slow down and spend some quiet time with horses. And sit with man’s best friend in the comfort of your own home.
Each week, we will meet online to discuss, create, explore, and connect through books-fiction and nonfiction-showcasing animals and their wisdom. Each adventure will allow us to open our hearts and minds for growth. We will explore each book for a month.
Know Thyself: Journaling
This group meets the first Sunday of every month at 8:00pm CST for 90 minutes. Cost is $45.
Virtual services in CO and KS. Virtual and in-person in AL.
Supplies needed:
- A book to journal in. It doesn’t have to be fancy. I prefer no lines so I typically buy a sketchbook on the clearance rack at Barnes and Noble. Choose something that calls to you so that you will want to open it up and write in it.
- Writing utensils. I have a favorite pen I like to write with. I also keep on hand colored markers and pencils.
- 3 magazines each month. Try to buy something that you don’t normally read and on different topics. I.e. cooking, traveling, quilting. It can be anything.
- Glue stick
- Your phone, or whatever device you take photos on.
